2011 Iowa State Fair
Iowa Wine Commercial Competition Award Winners
1. Entrants are Iowa Wines from Iowa Grapes (including grapes that can be grown in Iowa)
2. The two panels of judges conducted blind tastings of 116 wines which were entered by 24 Iowa wineries. Wines were judged in order of dryness in each category and are listed in the same order below.
3. 78 wines received awards. Judges look for well-crafted wines with no technical faults and expect the wine to have the smell and taste of the fruit(s). Here is a way to think of the significance of the awards in helping you select an Iowa wine.
Double Gold: Special wine. All judges awarded gold.
Gold: Proud to take to a dinner or party.
Silver: Proud to serve to friends in my home.
Bronze: Will enjoy drinking at home.
